The Dangers of Formaldehyde: Why PurezaWood Never Uses it

As you may have heard, laminate flooring is made with formaldehyde. We at PurezaWood don’t like laminate for a number of reasons, but its use of formaldehyde is the main one. Formaldehyde is known to be a dangerous chemical that has no place in your home. So why do people keep purchasing products that are full of it? A lot of it has to do with ignorance of its dangers.

According to the Consumer Product and Safety Commission, “[l]ong term exposure to high levels of formaldehyde has been associated with cancer” and is known to cause “adverse health effects.” Yet people still purchasing laminate flooring, which is covered in formaldehyde because they’re unaware of all these horrible effects.

Formaldehyde is cited by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) as an air contaminant that is dangerous for your health. it noted to cause or exacerbate breathing problems, skin issues, allergies, and more.

Furthermore, the formaldehyde is even more dangerous for the people who are around the fumes daily in the manufacturing facilities. So if you buy laminate, you’re contributing to these people’s health issues on top of your own.

A lot of people choose to ignore these risks and buy laminate flooring any way, simply because it’s cheaper than hardwood. We urge you not to risk your health (or your pets’ health) by doing this. Always look for products that are at least low in formaldehyde, posing no risk to your health.
