Inspecting
First make sure that your hardwood floors don’t actually need to be replaced instead of refinished. You can determine this by checking to see if the planks are thin or if there are exposed nails. This would mean that you’ve reached the end of your hardwood’s refinishing life and it’s time to purchase a container or more of wholesale engineered hardwood flooring from a reputable company like PurezaWood in Chicago. However, if your floor still seems thick and sturdy, just a little roughed up on the surface, then you’re ready to begin the refinishing process.
Sanding
Now it’s time to sand down your floors to bare wood, getting rid of any surface stains and finishes. You can do this manually on smaller surface areas, but this will get tiring the larger the square footage of flooring you’re covering. In cases like this it’s a good idea to rent or buy a drum sander. This is an electrically powered machine that speeds up the sanding process and does it in a more uniform and efficient manner. Staining

The more coats you apply, the more likely you are to make a mistake and have unevenly colored floors.
Finishing
